Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, or LEED is a system for designing, constructing, operating and certifying Green buildings. The LEED certification "points" listed on the following two pages are from two primary segments of LEED, Materials & Resources (MR) ond Indoor Environmental Quality (EQ). These are representative of the credits available through the top-quality products distributed by Wurth Wood Group.

For further explanation of these LEED credits and other segments of LEED, visit the U.S. Green Building Council website.

Julian Swain Builders contributes to the LEED® points score for projects for which it supplies products by building with materials that use recycled, regional, or rapidly renewable materials. The table below summarizes the points that are contributed by the use of these Materials and Resources (MR).

Recycled Content (1 Point) MR 4.1

Use materials with recycled content such that the sum of post-consumer recycled content plus one-half of the pre-consumer content constitutes at least 1 0% (based on cost) of the total value of the materials in the project. The recycled content value of a material assembly shall be determined by weight. The recycled fraction of the assembly is then multiplied by the cost of the assembly to determine the recycled content value.

Regional Materials (1 Point) MR 5.1

Use building materials that have been extracted, harvested or recovered, as well as manufactured within 500 miles of the project site for a minimum of 10% (based on cost) of the total materials' value. If only a fraction of a product or material is extracted/harvested/recovered and man ufactu red locally, then only that percentage (by weight) shall contribute to the regional value.

Recycled Content (1 Additional Point) MR 4.2

Use materials with recycled content such that the sum of post-consumer recycled content plus one-half of the pre-consumer content constitutes an additional 10% (total 20% based on cost) of the total value of the materials in the project.

Regional Materials (1 Additional Point) MR 5.2

Use building materials that have been extracted, harvested or recovered, as well as manufactured within 500 miles of the project site for an additional 10% (total of 20% based on cost) of the total materials' value.

Rapidly Renewable Materials (1 Point) MR 6

Use rapidly renewable building materials and products (made from plants that are typically harvested within a ten-year cycle or shorter) for 2.5% of the total value of all building materials and products used in the project, based on cost.

Certified Wood (1 Point) MR 7

Use a minimum of 50% of wood-based materials and products which are certified in accordance with the Forestry Stewardship Councils Principles and Criteria, for wood building components. These components include, but are not limited to, structural framing and general dimensional framing, flooring, sub-flooring, wood doors and finishes.
